With any of my trips to Japan, I tend to focus on these three things – Food, Travel Destinations, and Anime/Figure Shops. On the figure shop side of things, there’s Akihabara in Tokyo and Den Den Town in Osaka, but since I’m at Fukuoka today, what are some of my options? Well, I’ve done my research and travelled to every store I could find to check out what the city has to offer.

So, how’s the experience like here? And how does it stack up to some of Japan’s other cities? Let’s get to it. How Good are the Anime & Figure Shops in Fukuoka Actually?

Full Review: Anime/Figure Stores at Canal City Hakata

Starting off at Canal City Hakata, a shopping complex located right between the Hakata and Tenjin sides of Fukuoka. By subway, the closest station would be Kushida Shrine Station (Nanakuma Line.) But if you prefer to walk here, it’s a pretty manageable 15-20 minute walk from Hakata or Tenjin Stations.

⭐VERDICT⭐

So how good is the Anime / Figure hunting experience in Fukuoka actually? Let’s be real, if you’re coming to Japan specifically to figure hunt, nothing will beat Akihabara in terms of sheer volume. But if you’re planning a trip to Fukuoka and want to hunt for some figures along the journey, I’m happy to report that the shops here carry more or less the same things you’d find in Akihabara and Den Den Town.

From figures to games, anime merch to arcades – you should be able to track down most of the things you’re looking for relatively easily. Bonus points if it’s a recent item or from an official store.

There are some points that the shops in Fukuoka lack compared to Tokyo and Osaka that I should mention, however. If you’re tracking down something that’s sold out in one store, the chances of you finding it elsewhere might be a little lower, since there aren’t as many other stores to check out. And as a non-Tokyo and Osaka city, you won’t be finding as many pop-up shops and collaboration cafes, so if you really want to grab some limited-time merch, it might be a little difficult to do so.

But in all, Fukuoka’s pretty great when it comes to anime / figure hunting. So if you’re travelling to Fukuoka and are wondering what the available options are, here you go!
